I read a story called "The Emperors New Clothes."
;show off 見せびらかす
The Emperor is enormously vain and likes nothing better than to show off his clothes.
王様は非常にうぬぼれが強く、自分の衣装を見せびらかすことが何よりも好き。
；totally まったく、すべて
；absurd ばかげている
What we are doing is totally absurd,
私たちが行うことはまったくもってばかげている。
；seems to 〜のような
because everybody else seems to believe that it's the right thing to do.

there was a chance to show off his new clothes.

Bertie says that in real life, people are often more silly in a crowd than they are on their own. If you think that everybody else believes something, then it must be true - and you have to be very brave to be like the little boy in the story and stand up and say what can see with your own eyes.
